Why The Pretty Doula?
The Greek word doula means woman caregiver. We now use the word to describe a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the woman and her husband or partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during and just after childbirth.
-
25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean
-
8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
-
10% decrease in the use of medications for pain relief
-
Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average
-
38% decrease in the baby's risk of a low five minute Apgar score
-
31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
Doulas do NOT replace partners! Having a third person involved may raise concerns that doulas will come between the parents. My job as a Doula is to be a support person for fathers as well, ensuring that the partner’s physical and emotional needs are also met.
